About the Bog Buddy Program

Camosun bog is the traditional territory of the Musqueam people. It is an ecological treasure, a textbook, a classroom. Youth are invited to enter the bog and learn about its species and then to teach others. The Camosun bog buddy program has been implemented by the Camosun Bog Restoration Group since 2006.

The Bog Buddy Program is a locally developed unit plan for educators and youth leaders.  Its purpose is to equip  Bog Leaders to conduct a bog tour for children

The lessons were originally developed to fit within the BC curriculum for Plant biology, taxonomy, ecology, and sustainability for Biology 11.

The lessons are divided into four parts
1.  Get to know Camosun bog:  Visit the bog, meet the Crazy Boggers,  and do some library research on the species
2.  Prepare learning materials  such as a storybook, and bog playing cards
3.  Prepare a tour of Camosun bog
4.  Implement a tour
